exercise programs for knee osteoarthritis

3/29/2014

Optimal exercise programs for knee osteoarthritis should have one aim and focus on improving aerobic capacity, quadriceps muscle strength, or lower extremity performance. For best results, the program should be supervised and carried out 3 times a week. Such programs have a similar effect regardless of patient characteristics, including radiographic severity and baseline pain.

These results suggest that at one-year follow-up, operative treatment is no better than conservative treatment with regard to non-traumatic supraspinatus ( one of the four shoulder rotator cuff muscles ) tears, and that conservative treatment should be considered as the primary method of treatment for this condition.

KW4 Health Link/Community Ward Project

Five per cent of patients account for two-thirds of health care costs. These are most often patients with multiple, complex conditions. When the hospital, the family doctor, the long-term care home, community organizations and others work as a team, the patient receives better, more coordinated care. Providers will design a care plan for each patient and work together with patients and their families to ensure they receive the care they need.  http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/pro/programs/transformation/community.aspx

Allocation to the glucosamine-chondroitin combination resulted in a statistically significant reduction in joint space narrowing at 2 years. While all allocation groups demonstrated reduced knee pain over the study period, none of the treatment allocation groups demonstrated significant symptomatic benefit above placebo.
